Peggy Frisella, RN, BSN, co-founder of Surgical Outreach for the Americas, shares SOfA’s story and mission with the Missouri Chapter of the American College of Surgeons April 30, 2022 Camden Lake of the Ozarks.
SOfA recruits volunteer surgeons, nurses, anaesthesiologists, therapists, medical technicians and volunteer assistants a few times a year, each year, to perform life altering surgeries for children and adults in under served communities, including Dominican Republic, El Salvador and Belize.
Surgical Outreach for the Americas salutes the work of Dr. Maria Baimas-George.
Dr. Baimas-George is a surgeon, author and illustrator of a series of children’s books that have been proven to reduce the anxiety of young patients and their families when engaging doctors and medical facilities for treatment and care.

HEATHER WADE, DNP, FNP-BC, RN and Associate Professor inspires the St. Louis medical community every day. Her knowledge, compassion and work ethic has led to many personal accomplishments. So, it isn’t surprising that in April 2023, Heather was recognized by St. Louis Magazine with their Excellence in Nursing Award for her advocacy and contributions to healthcare in the St. Louiscommunity.
In addition to serving patients locally, Heather has has travelled with SOfA on Mission Trips to El Salvador and the Dominican Republic where she provides excellent patient care and presents instructional presentations to local doctors and nurses.
Heather is Chairperson for Sofa’s 2023 Trivia Night Auction.
