Dr. Brent Matthews has extensive surgical experience. He has published numerous articles on hernia surgery, and has a passion for giving back. Prior to founding Sofa with Peggy Frisella in 2008, he served communities in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Peggy Frisella lived and worked as a nurse in Guatemala in the late 1970s. Over the years she participated in numerous short term missions to Guatemala. Her 30 years in the surgery research arena bring insight to the SOfA team. As a co-founder of Sofa, Peggy cares deeply about the success of its mission.

Wes Vega rounds out our board as a detail oriented and skilled Spanish translator for our Mission trips. He understands the traditions and practices of our Central American patients. His caring and compassion for team members and patients contributes to the success of each mission trip.

Joseph Hurley is a seasoned general surgeon. He has participated in numerous missions to Honduras, El Salvador and the Dominican Republic during his career. His experience adds a high level of intuition and perspective to the core mission of SOfA.
